"Alright, Allright, Allriight." Matt McConaughey (David Wooderson)
It's May 28, 1976. The last day of Lee High School in Austin, Texas. The next year's group of Seniors are preparing for the annual hazing of incoming freshman. Star footballer Randall 'Pink' Floyd has pledged not to take drugs on Summer vacation.
Freshman, Mitch Kramer, escapes the initial hazing but later cops the paddle. The night plays out like a Machiavellian plot. The water finds a level and the kids find a form of peace, culminating in a 'joint' on the 50 yard line. It's a classic emotional poke in the guts. Expectation is an ugly beast. It's the impossible dream for the expector and simply impossible for the expectant.
I'm still not sure what a muscle car driving, handsome, 20 something is doing stirring the teen spirit soup. To be perfectly frank, it doesn't sit well with me. Doesn't matter, MM is supersonic cool. The theme of the movie is about growth and change. It's climbing life phases and taking next steps in young lives.
Our industry finished high school today. It's day 1 of a new beginning. It's like learning how to undo a bra again. It's not rocket science. But, there is a trick to it. Let's collectively fumble around and work it out, before we start heavy petting.
